What are the rules for playing chess, carom and ludu?

Q: What are the rules for playing chess, carom and ludu?

Answer:

Chess, ludu and carom (or carom) are the three most popular sports in our society. All three are played with cocoons. The dice game is a game of their kind. All these games originated in the Indian subcontinent and South Asia. All these games are completely forbidden. Whether it is by gambling or without gambling. Haram in all cases. Hadith strictly instructs to refrain from these games. E.g.,

حدثني عن مالك, عن موسى بن ميسرة, عن سعيد بن أبي هند, عن أبي موسى الأشعري, أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: من لعب بالنرد فقد عصى الله ورسوله

That is, it is narrated from Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that "he who plays dice or chess is disobedient to Allah and His Messenger."

[Muwatta Malik, ha. 69; Sunan Abu Dawood, ha. 4938]

وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ, عَنْ عَفْدِ اللَّهِ بَنِ عُمَرَ: َّنَّهُ ََذَا جَحَدً مِنْ

That is, "If 'Abdullah ibn' Umar (ra) saw a member of his family playing chess or dice, he would kill him and break the chess."

[Muwatta Malik; Awazzul Masalek, Shaykhul Hadith Zakaria Kandhalvi, 18/53]

In the hadith of Sahih Muslim, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said,

"Anyone who plays dice or chess should have his hands dipped in pork and blood."

On my father, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “I have a toy with a nerd milk.

[Sahih Muslim, Ha. 2260; Sunan Abu Dawood, ha. 4939; Sunan Ibn Majah, ha. 363; Sunanul Kubra, Nasai; Talkhisul Habir, b. 4, p. 63]

Imam Abu Hanifa and Imam Ahmad Ibn Hamble (may Allah be pleased with them both) said, "Do not greet a chess player, because he has committed a heinous sin in public."

[Majmool Fatawa, 32/245]

* Chess-Ludu-Carrom Same Game *

Imam Muhammad ibn al-Hasan, a student of Imam Abu Hanifa, said:

Muhammad said: It is better not to play with all of them than to die, and to play chess, and other than that.

That is, "there is no benefit in playing dice, chess and other such games."

[Muwatta Muhammad, ha. In the discussion of 905, p. Maktabatul Ilmia]

So it is clear that chess-ludu-carom are all the same game. These are all forbidden. It is narrated from Ali (ra) that he said, "Chess is a gamble of non-Arabs." This is proving to be haraam for chess and other non-Arab games such as ludu and carom. Because they are non-Arab and they are played with cocoons.

The Fuqaha'i scholars say that other games like dice or chess are also forbidden.

[Al-Mughni, 13/154, 155; Al Furu '6/563; Al-Insaf, 12/52, 53]

So we will refrain from all these haraam games of dice, chess, ludu and carom, we will also refrain from others
